<lj:music>The theme from Desert Strike</lj:music>

Myself and Jon have been hard at work in the studio, writing and recording some songs before hitting the road.

The song "Logical" has been completed and is an electronic experimental pop number with a hook to die for. Vocoders ahoy! We are thinking of selling this one to the Pet Shop Boys.

The song "If i only had one wish" is full of lush pianos and accoustic guitars and an accoustic solo from myself!

The song "Without Goodbye" was played at the Christmas gig and was well recieved and is now being worked on in the studio. It is sounding very spanish! TRUMPETS and STRINGS! Accoustic fiddling!

The song "In the city of shadows and silence" is a slow burner with urban edgy drums and an outro to die for. Look out for some contemporary dance elements in the production of this essentially rock based song.

The song currently titled "Reprise" is another piano and strings track with a lot of potential.

The song currently titled "A Simple Pop Song To Say I Hate You" does exactly what it says on the tin.

Other songs lined up are 37 this morning, Wishful Thinking and The Death of VHS.

The venues for the August tour are being finalised but it has been confirmed that local punk group The Cherries will be supporting at the majority of the local gigs. The gigs will be split into half which a Rock and a Pop section.

Thank you for all of your support and i hope that you are all ready for the summer.

Love to everyone single one of you,
Love Dave x

A lot has happened over the last few months.

Drummer Ron Howard has left the band my mutual consent and a new band member has been recruited in his place. Stay tuned for news on that. Howard is likely to join August Tour support group "The Cherries".

The new material is flowing and myself and Jon are going into the studio to work on some of this tomorrow. New songs include -

Reprise
The Death of the VHS
I wasn't made for this world
In the city of shadows and silence
I wanna be radioactive
Wishful Thinking
Golden Grahams
Elaboration
Conveyor Belt
Stand Tall (Make a Stand part 2)
Second Sight

Thank you for your continued support and we can't wait to see you on the tour!

Love,
The Lategates
xxx

    <lj:music>Ultravox - Hymm</lj:music>

Me and Mavis went out on Christmas Eve and it was the best abeilt wierdest night ever! It started off in the Miners Welfare with a couple of games of Bingo and an awful awful Pheonix Nights style band and a few drinks with the parents. Then off to the Angel which lasted one minute as it was as dead and a dodo. Then the one minute trek down to the hart (formerly known as the white hart) only to discover the old Angel DJ was playing down there and it just happens he plays some classic stuff. Rock on!

Well anyway, i see loads of old people from school and college which is cool and me and Mrs Mann spend all night dancing and singing along to classics like the communards, billy ocean and black box.

Some highlights -

* Some song got put on that had a bongo intro. Me, being very very drunk and in a christmas mood was disgusted! I asked Mavis in a very loud and disgusted manner "What's this african shit!!??". It was then that Mavis informed me it was one of my favourite songs ever, All Night Long by Lionel Richie. Oops!

* Screaming "RIIIIIIIIIIIDE ON TIIIIIIIIME" in an extremely nu metal manner

* Me and Mavis were just leaving when i bumped into our old bandmate Jim Lineker (Joe) who i had a quick catch up with before a strange fellow with a pint came up and started listening. Jim informed me that he had been stalking him all night, particularly in the toilets. He started babbling something out about Christmas. Being drunk i hugged him and was then joined by Mavis and Jim..... Now then, this is where the fun begins......

Drunk man - "BLAH BLAH BLAH.......Jesus wasn't heterosexual you know! NO NO NO! He was bisexual you see, THE BIBLE SAYS SO! blah blah blah. You look like Jesus.......and boy george, he's bisexual as well, perhaps he is the son of god?"

Myself and Mavis promptly hugged Drunk Vicar and Jim and left for home.
I love wierd things like that happening, it's what makes a good night out!

Anyway, i hope you all had great Christmasse's (what the fuck is the plural of Christmas, Christmi?)
Take Care,
Love Dave x

Todays practice went well and we have a stonking selection of 15 songs ready to be played tomorrow. We had a few problems keeping in time with the backing track to The Dust Bowl and the B string snapped on my new guitar with no time to get a new one but apart from that everything is cool.

The amazing prizes for the bingo arrived earlier! They are class and i cant wait to give them away.

We finished writing our christmas carol today. <lj:music>When you're in love with a beautiful woman - Dr Hook</lj:music>

Well welcome to this the first of hopefully many diary entries from Dave Mann and the Lategates. Keep checking back for news on our preperations for the forthcoming Titchmarsh tour and our new album recording sessions. Ron, Jon and Brian all have access to this as well so it will be from all of us!

Anyway, today i started penning a song called "You're in the know, Sobido" which is about the apparent randomness of life sometimes.

Hopefully this will also let you see the members true personalities and tastes. You will find much out about Ron i am sure!

Anyway all of you budding lategates,
keep yo helmets at the ready.....

Lots of love,
Dave x
